Afterlife
Spike, as well as Dawn,
didn't know that Willow, Tara, Xander
and Anya were working on a mojo to bring
Buffy back from the dead. When he sees
his beloved in the stairs of her house,
for a split second he thinks it is the
BuffyBot. After realising it is the real
Buffy, Spike goes speechless. When he
manages to talk again, he comments about
the wounds on Buffy's hands, saying that
he himself had already gone through the
same situation — to claw his way out of
a coffin. Softly, he offers to take care
of Buffy's wounds. While Dawn goes to
fetch mercurochrome and bandages, Spike
and Buffy talk a little; Spike has been
counting the days she was gone.
Hundred
forty seven days yesterday. Uh...
hundred forty eight today. 'Cept today
doesn't count, does it?
They are interrupted by the
Scoobies, who desperately enter the
house — they have been looking for
Buffy. Spike leaves the room; he is hurt
and mad at the Scoobies, because they
told him nothing about bringing Buffy
back.
Later, the Slayer is
patrolling and drops by Spike's [crypt];
the vampire got furniture, and the place
seems now "quite posh" according to him.
Spike tells Buffy
I do
remember what I said. The promise. To
protect her. If I had done that...
even if I didn't make it... you
wouldn't have had to jump. But I want
you to know I did save you. Not when
it counted, of course, but... after
that. Every night after that. I'd see
it all again... do something
different. Faster or more clever, you
know? Dozens of times, lots of
different ways... Every night I save
you.
The next day, Buffy gets
out of her house to find Spike in her
backyard; he is in the shadows, hiding
from the bright sun. Spike notices the
Slayer is upset and thinks she is
traumatized by her experience in a hell
dimension, making Buffy tell Spike her
secret: actually, she was in Heaven, she
was happy, and her friends torn her out
of there.
Everything
I feel, everything I touch... this is
Hell. Just getting through the next
moment, and the one after that...
knowing what I've lost...
Life Serial
Buffy is depressed and drops
by Spike's crypt. The two of them talk
and drink, wondering who would be
messing with Buffy's life — it's the [Troika],
but she doesn't know it yet. Spike then
takes Buffy to a seedy bar, for some
investigation, and there Buffy gets to
know [Clem],
one of Spike's friends, and the "kitten
poker", where the players play for
kittens, instead of money.
You're
not a schoolgirl. You're not a shop
girl. You're a creature of the
darkness. Like me. Try on my world.
See how good it feels.
Once More, With
Feeling
Things improve for Spike on
the musical episode. The population of
Sunnydale is under the spell of a demon
(Sweet) that makes everybody sings their
innermost feelings. Even vampires aren't
immune and Spike ends up singing to
Buffy. At first, he asks Buffy to let
him Rest in Peace.
All dancing and singing
makes people eventually burst on flames
and that almost happens to Buffy, if
Spike hadn't stopped her. Then, he sings
to her that life isn't bliss.
In the end of the episode,
Buffy finally gives in, and kisses Spike
passionately.
Tabula Rasa
If the kiss was the
beginning of the path to paradise for
Spike, for Buffy, apparently, it meant
nothing. And she swears she won't kiss
him again, ever.
We...
we kissed, you and me. All [Gone
With The Wind], with
the rising music, and the rising...
music, and what was that, Buffy?
Willow does a spell to
erase from Tara's memory the fight the
two of them had just had, and to erase
from Buffy's memory that she had been in
Heaven; however, the spell goes horribly
wrong and all Scoobies end up with
amnesia, including Willow herself and
Spike.
They are reunited at the
Magic Box when vampires attack; Buffy
(renamed Joan) and Spike (renamed Randy
Giles, son of Giles), go after the
vampires and Spike/Randy gets very
excited when he finds out that he is a
"super hero" — without realizing what he
really is: a vampire.
I
must be a noble vampire. A good guy.
On a mission of redemption. I help the
hopeless. I'm a vampire with a
soul. I'm a hero really. I mean, to be
cast such an ugly lot in life and then
to rise above it. To seek out better,
nobler things. It's inspirational,
isn't it? And the two of us... natural
enemies, thrown together to stand
against the forces of darkness. Utter
trust. No thought of me biting you, no
thought of you staking me.
After the spell is broken,
Buffy has to face the reality again —
she is very sad that Giles returned to
England — and goes to the Bronze, by
herself. Spike shows up, but she doesn't
want to talk to him. However, as Buffy's
"no" seems to mean actually "yes", by
the end of the night she is kissing
Spike again, in a dark corner in the
Bronze.
Smashed
Spike is getting excited
about the kissing sessions with Buffy,
but he still has to fight Buffy's
resistance to admitting she has feelings
for him — she tells him she won't
be kissing him again.
You're
a tease, you know that, Slayer? Get a
fellow's motor revving, let the
tension marinate a couple-a days, then
bam! Crown yourself the ice queen.
Later, Spike, annoyed at
Buffy's attitude (and aggressiveness)
toward him, hits her back and, for his
total surprise, finds out that the chip
in his brain isn't working. He doesn't
want to show it to her, however, and
pretends he did feel pain. Wouldn't the
chip be working properly or would Buffy
have come back wrong?
Don't
touch me! You're a thing. An evil,
disgusting, thing.
In order to know whether
the chip stop working or not, Spike
tries to bite a woman in a dark alley,
and fails — the chip still works fine.
His words to his would-be victim,
however, seems to be targeted at Buffy,
and he needs to talk himself into biting
the girl.
Yes,
I am. I am a killer. That's what I do.
I kill. And, yeah, maybe it's been a
long time, but... it's not like you
forget how. You just... do it. And now
I can, again, all right? So here goes.
Spike looks for Warren and
orders him to check his chip. It shows
that the chip is OK, that it no longer
reacts to Buffy. Then, the vampire looks
for the Slayer, and finds her leaving
the Magic Box. The two of them start a
huge fight, which begins in the street
and ends up inside an abandoned
building, where the couple finally have
sex for the first time — initiated by
Buffy — causing the collapse of the
building. The walls separating the
Slayer from the Vampire fall.
The sex is wild, and the
night is just beginning.
Wrecked
The day after arrives, and
Buffy, for Spike's disappointment, is
back to her denial mode. They woke up
both naked in the middle of the
wreckage, and she desperately looks for
her clothes, in order to leave the place
as soon as possible. Spike wants her to
stay, she says no — meaning yes — and
kisses him again; they would have done
it again, if Spike hadn't said something
very inappropriate about f- a Slayer to
be way better than to kill one. Buffy
gets up, and resumes looking for her
clothes, while he says that vampires got
her hot. She replies that one
vampire got her hot, and he is just
convenient; Spike gets hurt.
Bollocks!
It was a bloody revelation. You can
act as high and mighty as you like...
but I know where you live now, Slayer.
I've tasted it.
After her experience with
Spike, Buffy goes home feeling bad and
says to herself that that won't happen
again. Later, Willow and Dawn go missing
and Buffy seeks Spike for help. He is in
his crypt, sleeping, and she tosses a
candle at him, to wake him up.
Malicious, he says he can teach her how
to use candles in foreplay... Buffy cuts
him short saying Dawn and Willow are
missing, and some guy named Rack may
have something to do with it. Spike gets
worried, for he knows that Rack is a
dangerous fellow who deals in black
magic. His place is cloaked and moves
around a lot too, in order to keep Rack
out of trouble, and just the ones who
are into the big bad — a witch or a
vampire, for instance — can find it.
Spike gladly agrees to help Buffy, and
when he gets up out of the bed, naked,
Buffy quickly turns her back. Spike
mocks: Oh, that's right.
Hide your blushing eyes...
Later, when they are
walking in the streets and Spike hasn't
felt Rack's place yet, the passionate
night they shared comes to light. Buffy
tells him that she is disgusted with
herself and that the night before was
the most degrading experience of her
life. Spike says she gave him a run for
his money, and that she felt something;
she says it wasn't love, and Spike
replies "not yet." Once more, he tell
Buffy he loves her and wants her to stop
being such a bitch; if not, maybe he can
bite her. The Slayer gets upset and says
she wants him out of her life — but
Spike replies that it is too late, she
has already invited him. Besides, she
needs his help to save Dawn.
I'm
in your system now. You're gonna crave
me, like I crave blood.
Gone
Spike drops by Buffy's
house early in the morning, doing his
show with the [blanket]
on flames. He says he is looking for his
lighter, but Buffy thinks it is just a
lame excuse to see her. When the two of
them are about to start making out in
the kitchen, they are almost get caught
by Xander, who says to Spike leave Buffy
alone, adding that just a simpleton like
Harmony or a nut sack like Drusilla
would hook up with him, which makes
Buffy mad — as well as very embarrassed.
So,
um... what should I call you then?
Pet? Sweetheart? My, uh... little
goldilocks? You know I love this hair.
The way it bounces around when
you-
A little later, the social
worker in charge of deciding Dawn's
guardianship arrives to talk to Buffy
and the interview ends up not too well.
Spike tries to offer some help, but she
wants him to go. Before leaving,
however, Spike reaches for his lighter,
which is in Buffy's pocket, and takes it
maliciously. Buffy, upset about her
life, goes to her bedroom and cuts her
long hair.
Later, Buffy is victim of
her most recent enemies, the trio formed
by Warren, Jonathan and Andrew — they
make her invisible. She takes advantage
of the situation to mess around with the
social worker, and to pay a visit to
Spike. Arriving in his crypt, Buffy
doesn't make her presence known; she
grabs him, slams him against a wall and
has his shirt ripped open. Just then
Spike realizes it is Buffy, and not some
ghost.
The vampire appreciates the
visit, but is hurt, too, for he knows
she is there just because she can't be
"seen" with him by anyone, like Xander,
for instance: the boy arrives in the
crypt looking for Buffy, and finds Spike
naked in his bed, seeming to be "working
out." After Xander leaves, the vampire
tells Buffy she should go, too, because
if he can't have all of her, he would
rather have none — but Buffy, ignoring
what he is saying, kneels in front of
him (who is still naked) and... cheats.
This
vanishing act's right liberating for
you, innit? Go anywhere you want. Do
anything you want. Or anyone.
DoubleMeat Palace
Buffy starts working at the
DoubleMeat Palace, trying to solve her
financial problems. Spike doesn't like
to see her in such a lame job, at all —
he knows she is unhappy — and tells
Buffy to quit it. Later, during the
break, they do it in the parking lot.
You
don't belong here. You're something...
you're better than this.
Dead Things
Buffy drops by Spike's
crypt and they do it again. Afterwards,
Buffy starts a conversation — about how
he fixed the crypt up — which surprises
Spike, because she never showed any
interest in talk to him since they have
started shagging. Spike, deeply in love
with Buffy, is hurt by the way she
treats him, using him and leaving. They
also congratulate each other about their
performance in bed, agreeing that both
of them got the job done. Spike wants to
know what this thing they have means to
her, and she says they don't have a
"thing". He asks if she trusts her,
showing handcuffs; although she says
"never", it's very clear she will play
with him — which is confirmed later,
when Buffy, while talking to Tara at the
DoubleMeat Palace, nurses her wrists.
The
things you do... the way you make it
hurt in all the wrong places. I've
never been with such an animal.
At night, Buffy and the
Scoobies go to the Bronze. While Xander,
Anya, Willow and Tara dance, Buffy goes
upstairs, where she meets Spike. He is
in his "dark creature of the night"
mode, and tries one more sexual
encounter with her. At first, she says
no, but it doesn't take much effort for
the "no" turns into "yes".
No...
don't close your eyes. Look at them.
That's not your world. You belong in
the shadows... with me. Look at your
friends... and tell me... you don't
love getting away with this... right
under their noses.
The following night, Spike
is in his crypt when he senses Buffy
approaching. He goes to the door* and
starts touching it, and Buffy, in the
other side, does the same; he is happy
that his beloved Buffy is there.
However, when he opens the door, she
isn't there anymore.
*The song that plays in this
scene is Out of This World by
Bush
He goes after her and finds
the Slayer very confused, fighting
demons that fade in and fade out before
her eyes — a Warren's new evil plan is
in progress, and it makes Buffy think
she has killed a girl (Katrina Silvers,
Warren's ex-girlfriend).
The following day, Buffy
wants to turn herself in to the police,
but Spike desperately tries to keep her
from doing that — he says he loves her,
she replies he doesn't, he asks if she
thinks he hasn't tried not to. They
fight, and he makes the huge mistake of
calling her "my girl". She gets furious
at him and punches him in the face
several times, hurting him badly.
You
don't... have a soul! There is nothing
good or clean in you. You are dead
inside! You can't feel anything real!
I could never... be your girl!
She then goes to the police
station, leaving Spike in the dark
alley, alone and severely wounded, to
die when the sun rises.
You
always hurt... the one you love, pet.
Eventually, Buffy finds out
about the Troika's evil plan, and quits
turning herself in to the police — and
even knowing that the killer is Warren,
she does nothing about it, which leads
to tragic consequences later in the
year.
Not being quite happy about
what she has been doing with Spike,
Buffy ends up crying on Tara's shoulder;
the witch is nice, saying that there
isn't anything wrong with the Slayer,
it's OK if she loves Spike — or not —
and adds that the vampire does love her.
Why do
I let Spike do those things to me? He's
everything I hate. He's everything
that... I'm supposed to be against. But
the only time that I ever feel anything
is when...
Older and Far Away
Buffy is turning 21, throws
a party and doesn't invite Spike.
Anyway, Spike shows up at Buffy's house,
because he heard about the party from
Willow. He brings along a pack of beers
and a friend, [Clem],
the nice demon Buffy met playing kitten
poker (Life Serial).
The problem is that Xander and Anya have
invited a young man, Richard, as a date
for Buffy, which makes Spike very
jealous.
You
think he'll take you out on his
ten-speed, pet? Maybe he'll let you
ride in that little basket in the
front. Jealous my ass!
The party goes all right
until the attendees notice that they
can't leave the house, they are trapped
inside it. This is the consequence
of a wish made by Dawn to [Halfrek],
a Vengeance Demon (or Justice Demon, as
she prefers to be called) who had
pretended to be counselor at Dawn's
school. Hallie, feeling Dawn's pain of
watching everybody she loves going away,
has cast the spell that is preventing
anyone to open the doors and walk away.
When they realize what is happening,
Hallie is summoned by Anya (who used to
be a Vengeance Demon, too) and the spell
is lifted. Curiously, [Hallie]
does know Spike (she looks at him and
says "William!") but the vampire doesn't
feel very comfortable of having been
recognized.
Spike, while trapped in the
house and still very annoyed by
Richard's presence, doesn't miss the
chance to be mean to the boy; he says
Richard should definitely go, to find
his coat and get him on his merry way.
Besides, the vampire adds, it is time
for breakfast, and a growing boy like
Richard shouldn't skip it. He hints that
in the old times he would already have
eaten by then, which makes Buffy get
angry; she tells him off, and Spike,
looking at Richard, asks if he works
out, just to piss Buffy off a little
more...
Tummy's
making all kinds of gurgles. Maybe I
oughta just feed on whatever's
around... even if it doesn't go down
well.
PORTUGUÊS
Afterlife
 Spike, assim como Dawn, não
foi avisado pelos Scoobies
que Willow estava preparando um ritual
para ressuscitar Buffy. Quando ele vê a
amada viva, nas escadas da casa dela,
por um segundo ele a confunde com a [BuffyBot].
Assim que percebe que a Buffy que está
diante dele é a verdadeira Buffy, sua
emoção é enorme. Quando consegue falar,
ele comenta sobre o ferimento que Buffy
tem nas mãos; Spike reconhece que é um
ferimento conseguido por uma pessoa ao
acordar dentro de um caixão, sete palmos
em baixo da terra e ter que vir à
superfície sem ajuda nenhuma, pois ele
próprio já passou pela tenebrosa
experiência. Carinhoso, ele se oferece
para cuidar das mãos de Buffy e pede a
Dawn que traga mercúrio e bandagens.
Spike e Buffy vão para a sala, sentam um
em frente ao outro, Spike segurando as
mãos dela. Os dois conversam um pouco,
enquanto Dawn não chega com a medicação.
Infelizmente, assim que a menina chega,
entram pela porta Willow, Xander, Anya e
Tara (eles estavam à procura de Buffy),
fazendo com que Spike se retire da sala,
pois ele está muito bravo e magoado
porque nada foi dito a ele sobre a
tentativa de trazer Buffy de volta:
Buffy:
Quanto tempo eu fiquei longe?
Spike:
Cento e quarenta e sete dias ontem.
Uh... cento e quarenta e oito hoje.
Mas hoje não conta, não é? Quanto
tempo foi pra você... onde você
estava?
Buffy:
Mais.
Buffy vai patrulhar e dá
uma chegada na [cripta]
de Spike; ele desabafa:
Spike: Eu
com certeza lembro o que disse. A
promessa. Protegê-la. Se eu tivesse
feito isto... mesmo que eu não
sobrevivesse... você não teria que ter
pulado. Mas quero que você saiba que
eu te salvei. Não quando contava, é
claro... depois. Toda noite depois
daquilo. Eu revejo tudo... faço algo
diferente. Mais rápido ou mais
inteligente, sabe? Dezenas de vezes,
um monte de maneiras diferentes...
Toda noite eu salvo você.
Desde
que Buffy voltou da morte, ela
mostrou-se mais aberta ao vampiro,
confiando a ele, e só a ele, o segredo
de que estava no Paraíso e não no
Inferno, como todos os seus amigos
pensavam. Spike está nos fundos da casa
da Caça-Vampiros, quando ela sai e o
encontra, escondido nas sombras — é um
dia ensolarado:
Spike:
Bem, faz tempo que não visito uma
dimensão infernal, mas entendo alguma
coisa sobre tormento.
Buffy:
Eu estava feliz. Onde quer que
estivesse, eu... estava... eu estava
feliz. Em paz. Sabia que todos com que
me importava estavam bem. Eu sabia.
Tempo... não significava nada... nada
tinha forma... mas ainda era eu,
entende? E eu estava protegida... e eu
era amada... e eu estava terminada.
Completa. Não enetendo nada sobre
teologia ou dimensões, ou... nada
disto, realmente... mas acho que
estava no Céu. E agora não estou. Fui
tirada de lá. Arrancada... pelos meus
amigos. Tudo aqui é... duro, e
brilhante, e violento. Tudo que sinto,
tudo que toco... isto é o inferno.
Apenas vivendo o momento, e o
seguinte... sabendo o que perdi...
Life
Serial
Buffy está deprimida
e vai visitar Spike em sua cripta,
onde os dois bebem e conversam
amigavelmente sobre a vida e sobre
quem estaria tentando prejudicá-la
(seria a [Troika],
mas ela ainda não sabe). Spike
propõe a Buffy que ela conheça "o
mundo dele" e eles vão a um bar
onde Buffy é apresentada ao
"kitten poker" — pôquer aonde os
jogadores, ao invés de apostarem
dinheiro, apostam gatinhos.
Spike:
Você não é uma garota de
colégio. Você não é uma
"patricinha". Você é uma
criatura da escuridão. Como eu.
Experimente o meu mundo. Veja
como é bom.
Buffy:
Tem bebida no teu mundo?
Once More, With
Feeling
As
coisas começam a melhorar para Spike
neste episódio musical. Toda a
cidade de Sunnydale está sob um
encantamento que faz as pessoas
cantarem seus mais profundos
segredos, como se estivessem num
musical, e nem os vampiros escapam
do feitiço. O responsável por toda a
confusão é Xander, que, em dúvida
sobre seu futuro casamento com Anya,
invoca o demônio Sweet para obter
algumas respostas.
Primeiro
Spike canta para Buffy deixá-lo em
paz, e só voltar a vê-lo quando
quiser alguma coisa com ele, quando
ela passa mais uma vez por sua
cripta querendo (somente) saber se
ele sabe de alguma coisa. O problema
da dança e da cantoria é que as
pessoas podem entrar em combustão
espontânea a qualquer momento e é
isto que quase acontece com Buffy,
se não fosse a intervenção de Spike,
que a salva e canta para ela que a
vida não é só alegria. No
final do episódio, Buffy finalmente se
rende aos encantos do vampiro e o beija
apaixonadamente:
Spike:
O dia em que você decidir o que
realmente quer, provavelmente vai
acontecer uma parada. Setenta e seis
malditos trombones.
Buffy:
Spike...
Spike:
Olha, você não precisa dizer nada.
Buffy
(cantando): Eu toco o fogo e ele me
congela. Eu olho para ele e ele está
negro. Isto não é real mas eu só
quero sentir...
Spike
(cantando): Eu morri tantos anos
atrás. Você me faz sentir...
Tabula Rasa
Para
Spike, o beijo foi o ínicio da
estrada para o paraíso, mas Buffy
parece não querer seguir o mesmo
caminho. Na noite seguinte, os dois
se encontram no cemitério, quando
Buffy está patrulhando; ele quer
conversar sobre o que aconteceu e
acaba ouvindo de Buffy que ela NUNCA
mais pretende beijá-lo:
Spike:
Nós nos beijamos, Buffy.
Buffy:
E daí?
Spike:
Nós... nós nos beijamos, eu e
você. [...E o Vento Levou],
com a música crescendo... e a
música... crescendo, e o que foi
aquilo, Buffy?
Buffy:
Um feitiço?
Spike:
Oh, não banque a certinha comigo.
Eu sei que tipo de garota você é
realmente. Não sei?
Buffy:
O que nós fizemos, está feito. Mas
eu não vou beijar você nunca,
Spike. Não vou mais tocar em você,
nunca mais.
Willow
faz um feitiço para que Tara esqueça
uma briga entre as duas e Buffy
esqueça que esteve no Céu e o
encantamento acaba causando amnésia
em todos os Scoobies
(incluindo a própria Willow) — e
também em Spike.
Quando
eles são atacados por vampiros, na Magic
Box, Buffy e Spike,
apesar de não saberem quem são — ela
se rebatizou de Joan e ele de Randy
— naturalmente tomam a iniciativa de
perseguir e matar os inimigos.
Durante a luta com os vampiros,
Spike/Randy se transforma e fica
entusiamado, pois acha que, como
Buffy/Joan, também é um super-herói;
ele não percebe o que realmente é —
um vampiro:
Buffy/Joan:
Eu mato a sua espécie.
Spike/Randy:
E eu mordo a sua. Então por que
não quero morder você? E por que
estou lutando com outros vampiros?
Devo ser um nobre vampiro. Um cara
bom. Numa missão de redenção. Eu
ajudo aqueles sem esperança. Sou
um vampiro com alma.
Buffy/Joan:
Um vampiro com alma? Oh, meu Deus,
que bobagem!
Spike/Randy:
Sou um herói, realmente. Quero
dizer, ter um destino tão feio
nesta vida e então superá-lo.
Buscar coisa melhores, mais
nobres. É uma coisa inspiradora,
não é? E nós dois... inimigos
naturais, colocados juntos para
enfrentar as forças da escuridão.
Confiança total. Nenhum pensamento
de mim mordendo você, nenhum
pensamento de você enfiando uma
estaca em mim.
Buffy/Joan:
Depende de quanto tempo mais você
vai continuar tagarelando.
Em
relação a Buffy ter beijado Spike, o
"nunca mais" dela no início do
episódio, no entanto, deve ter outro
significado, pois no final do mesmo
lá está ela novamente nos braços do
vampiro, lábios colados num beijo
apaixonado, num cantinho escuro do [The Bronze].
Smashed
Bem,
até agora temos então dois beijos
entre Spike e Buffy — sem contar
aquele beijinho de agradecimento no
episódio Intervention,
quando Buffy fingiu ser a BuffyBot
e as cenas de [Something Blue],
quando os dois foram enfeitiçados e
achavam que estavam apaixonados.
Spike a esta altura está todo
animado, mas ainda tem que lutar com
a relutância de Buffy em admitir que
sente algo pelo vampiro, que os
beijos significaram alguma coisa:
Buffy:
Eu não vou te beijar novamente,
Spike. Uma vez foi-
Spike:
Duas.
Buffy:
Mas não de novo.
Spike:
Você provoca, sabe, Caça-Vampiros?
Faz o motor do cara pegar, deixa a
tensão marinar por uns dois dias,
então bam! Se coroa a rainha do
gelo.
Buffy:
Precisa de mais algumas metáforas
para essa sua comparação?
Spike:
É só uma questão de tempo até que
você se de conta que sou o único
aqui pra você, pet. Você não tem
mais ninguém!
No
mesmo episódio, Spike, irritado com
a insistente indiferença de Buffy,
tem uma discussão com a
Caça-Vampiros; os dois acabam se
batendo e ele descobre que pode
ferí-la sem que o seu [chip]
seja ativado (Spike finge para Buffy

seriam para Buffy e o vampiro parece
ter que convencer a si próprio de
que continua querendo se alimentar
de seres humanos:
Spike:
Só porque ela está confusa sobre
onde se encaixa, eu tenho que
estar também? Por que eu não
estou. Eu sei o que sou. Eu sou
perigoso. Eu sou mau.
Mulher:
Eu-eu tenho certeza que você não é
mau.
Spike:
Sim, eu sou. Eu sou um assassino.
É o que eu faço. Eu mato. E, é,
pode ter se passado um longo
tempo, mas... não é como se você
esquecesse como fazer. Você
apenas... faz. E agora eu posso
novamente, certo? Então, lá vai.
Isto pode doer um pouquinho.
Ele
se aproxima para a mordida, mas tem
que se afastar, gritando de dor
Spike:
Mas que droga está acontecendo?
Como
continua não podendo fazer mal a
humanos, Spike procura [Warren]
para que o rapaz faça um chek-up
completo em seu chip,
que mostra que ele está perfeito.
Como não funciona só em Buffy,
parece que o problema é com ela. O
vampiro então procura a
Caça-Vampiros para uma confrontação,
que acaba resultando em uma feroz
luta entre os dois, num prédio
abandonado:
Spike:
Oh, a dor! A dor! Não existe mais.
Adivinhe o que acabei de
descobrir. Parece que não sou
assim tão inofensivo como você
pensava, querida.
Buffy:
Como?
Spike:
Não entendeu? Não está vendo? Você
voltou diferente!
E no calor da briga Buffy
agarra Spike, o beija
apaixonadamente (agora pela terceira
vez!), pula em seu colo, abre o
zíper da calça dele e... vinte e
sete episódios depois de ter se dado
conta que estava apaixonado pela
Caça-Vampiros através de um sonho (Out
of My Mind),
Spike FINALMENTE
deixa de sonhar e tem a verdadeira
Buffy inteirinha só para ele. Ele
mesmo quase não acredita, seu olhar
é de total espanto em relação à
atitude predadora de Buffy. Após o
choque inicial, o sexo é selvagem e
o prédio quase vem abaixo, com o
casal desabando para o andar
inferior, sem se desgrudarem nem por
um segundo — e a noite, uma criança.
Wrecked
O
dia seguinte chega e Buffy, para
desgosto de Spike, volta ao modo
"negação", procurando suas roupas e
desesperadamente querendo ir embora.
Spike pede a ela que fique, ela diz
"não" algumas vezes, mas como o
"não" de Buffy nem sempre significa
"não", ela acaba cedendo, até que
Spike faz um comentário infeliz que
a enfurece de verdade:
Spike:
Eu sabia. Eu sabia que a única
coisa melhor do que matar uma
Caça-Vampiros seria f-
Buffy:
O quê? Então é disso que se trata?
Transar como uma Caça-Vampiros?
Spike:
Bem, eu não jogaria pedras, pet.
Parece que você é quem é a tiete
aqui.
Buffy:
Cale a boca.
Spike:
Eu só estou dizendo... vampiros
deixam você excitada.
Buffy:
*Um* vampiro me deixava excitada.
Um. Mas ele se foi. Você é
apenas... Você é apenas
conveniente.
Spike
levanta-se do chão e começa a vestir
suas calças, ao mesmo tempo magoado
e bravo:
Spike:
Então, o que que é agora? Voltou a
me tratar como lixo até a próxima
vez que tiver uma coceirinha e não
puder se virar sozinha? Bem,
esqueça. A noite passada mudou as
coisas. Não vou ser mais seu bode
expiatório.
Depois
da experiência noturna com Spike,
Buffy volta para casa se sentindo
não muito satisfeita consigo mesma e
certa que aquilo não irá mais se
repetir.
No
decorrer dos acontecimentos, [Dawn]
e [Willow]
somem de casa e Buffy vai atrás de
Spike, na [cripta],
para que ele a ajude a encontrar as
meninas. Ele está dormindo e ela
joga uma vela em cima dele para
acordá-lo; ele diz que pode
ensiná-la a fazer melhor uso das
velas... Buffy muda de assunto e diz
que Willow está metida com Rack, um
bruxo muito poderoso e perigoso, que
atende numa casa escondida
magicamente. Como somente seres
malignos (como os vampiros) ou
pessoas envolvidas com magia negra
podem detectá-la, Spike é de grande
ajuda para Buffy. Ele levanta da
cama, completamente sem roupa, e
Buffy vira o rosto, envergonhada.
Spike caçoa dela... Os dois então
saem pelas ruas de Sunnydale e,
enquanto Spike não consegue "sentir"
o esconderijo de Rack, a tórrida
noite de amor vivida pelos dois vem
a tona:
Spike:
As coisas mudaram.
Buffy:
Quer parar com isso? A única coisa
que mudou é que estou com nojo de
mim mesma. Este é o poder do seu
charme. A noite passada... foi a
mais perversa... degradante
experiência da minha vida.
Spike:
É. Minha também.
Buffy:
Esta deve ser a maneira como você
se excita, mas não é o meu estilo.
Spike:
Não, foi você quem quis assim. Me
deu bastante trabalho,
Caça-Vampiros. Agora, eu admito.
Você tem poder sobre mim. Eu amo
você. Você sabe disso. Mas voltei
a ficar cofiante... Você sentiu
alguma coisa na noite passada.
Buffy:
Amor não.
Spike:
Não ainda. Mas agora eu estou no
seu sistema. Você vai me desejar,
como eu desejo sangue.
Gone
Spike
aparece na casa de Buffy logo de
manhã, fazendo aquela entrada
espalhafatosa na cozinha da
Caça-Vampiros, [cobertor]
em chamas etc e tal. Ele diz que
está ali a procura de seu isqueiro,
e Buffy acha que é só uma desculpa
esfarrapada para vê-la.
Os
dois começam a namorar na cozinha e
são quase pegos em flagrante por [Xander].
O carpinteiro, como sempre, faz
comentários pouco gentis sobre
Spike, dizendo que só "uma simplória
como [Harmony]
ou uma louca como [Dru]"
se envolveriam com o vampiro, o que
deixa Buffy muito brava e
embarassada.
Xander: Santo [Godfrey
Cambridge],
Spike!
Um
pouco depois, chega a assistente
social encarregada de resolver com
quem ficará a guarda da irmã menor
de Buffy, Dawn, e a entrevista acaba
não sendo muito positiva. Spike
tenta oferecer seu apoio a Buffy,
mas ela o manda embora. Ele vai, mas
antes maliciosamente pega seu
isqueiro no bolso da calça de Buffy.
Desconfortável com tudo o que está
acontecendo em sua vida, ela vai
para o quarto, pega uma tesoura e
corta seus cabelos longos.
Mais
tarde, Buffy é vítima dos seus mais
recentes arqui-inimigos, o trio
formado por [Warren, Andrew e
Jonathan] e acaba
invisível. Uma situação perfeita
para ela, que pode assim, sem culpas
ou preocupações, ir até a cripta de
Spike e ter um pouco de diversão com
ele. Novamente, ela dá uma de
predadora e o ataca sem aviso,
deixando-o confuso inicialmente
sobre quem o estaria agarrando,
jogando-o contra a parede e rasgando
suas roupas. O vampiro, ao mesmo
tempo que aprecia a visita, sente-se
magoado, pois sabe que Buffy está
ali porque não pode ser "vista" com
ele. É o que acontece quando Xander
vai a cripta perguntar se Spike sabe
alguma coisa sobre a invisibilidade
de Buffy e encontra Spike nu na
cama, fazendo algo que parecem ser
exercícios... Depois, Spike
desabafa:
Buffy:
...eu pensei que estávamos nos
divertindo.
Spike:
É, agora! Mas cedo ou tarde seus
amigos vão achar um jeito de
trazer você de volta. Você precisa
ir. Vista-se se puder achar suas
roupas, e se manda. Porque se não
posso ter você por inteiro, eu
prefiro-
Spike
olha para baixo:
Spike:
OK, isto é trapaça.
DoubleMeat Palace
Buffy
começa a trabalhar na lanchonete DoubleMeat
Palace, tentando
resolver seus problemas financeiros.
Spike não se conforma em vê-la num
trabalho tão medíocre e diz isso
para ela. Mais tarde, aproveitando
uma folga no trabalho, ela transa
com o vampiro nos fundos da
lanchonete.
Dead Things
Buffy
novamente faz uma visitinha para
Spike em sua cripta. Os dois estão
embaixo de um tapete, exaustos, após
mais uma rodada de sexo selvagem.
Buffy começa uma conversa, o que
deixa Spike admirado — apaixonado
por ela, ele visivelmente se
ressente com o modo como a
Caça-Vampiros o trata, usando-o e
indo embora, invariavelmente.
Buffy:
Sabe, este lugar até que está
legal para um buraco na terra.
Você arrumou bem.
Spike:
Bem, uma vez eu mordi um
decorador. Talvez tenha ficado
alguma coisa.
Buffy:
Eu tenho pensado em fazer alguma
coisa no meu quarto.
Spike:
É?
Buffy:
É, eu acho que os posters do New
Kids On The Block estão começando
a denunciar a minha
idade.
Spike:
Bem, se você quiser, eu posso- Nós
estamos conversando?
Spike: Bem, não é
nesta hora que você
invariavelmente me bate e vai
embora, virtualmente flutuando?
Buffy:
Este é o plano... tão logo minhas
pernas comecem a funcionar.
Spike:
Você foi fantástica.
Buffy:
Você também fez um bom trabalho.
Spike:
Eu só estava tentando acompanhar.
As coisas que você faz... o modo
com que faz doer nos lugares
errados. Eu nunca estive com um
animal assim.
Buffy:
Eu não sou um animal!
Spike:
Quer ver as marcas de mordida?
Spike: O que é
isto pra você? Esta coisa que a
gente tem.
Buffy:
Nós não temos uma... coisa, nós
temos... isto. É tudo.
Spike:
Você ao menos gosta de mim?
Buffy:
Às vezes.
Spike:
Mas você gosta do que eu faço com
você.
Buffy
e os Scoobies
vão ao [Bronze].
Enquanto seus amigos estão dançando,
ela sobe para o andar superior, onde
Spike aparece e tenta mais um
encontro sexual. Ele está no seu
modo "vampiro, criatura da
escuridão" e Buffy diz "não" — mas
já sabemos que o "não" de Buffy nem
sempre significa "não", não é mesmo?
Buffy:
Não faz isso.
Spike:
Me faça parar!
Não...
não feche os olhos. Olhe pra eles.
Aquele não é o seu mundo. Você
pertence às sombras... junto
comigo. Olhe para os seus
amigos... e me diga... que você
não gosta de fugir disso tudo...
bem na cara deles.
Na
noite seguinte, Spike está em sua
cripta quando sente que Buffy está
por perto. Ele vai até a porta* e
começa a acariciá-la (a porta);
Buffy faz o mesmo do outro lado. Ele
está feliz que sua amada está
chegando, mas quando abre a porta,
ela já não está mais lá. Ele vai
atrás dela e encontra uma Buffy
confusa, lutando com demônios que
aparecem e desaparecem — novamente
um plano maligno bolado por Warren,
Andrew e Jonathan está sendo posto
em prática. O resultado final é que
Buffy pensa que matou uma garota — [Katrina Silvers]
— e fica desesperada. Spike tenta
acalmá-la e a tira dali.
*A
música que toca durante a cena da
porta é Out of This World do
Bush.
A
Caça-Vampiros mal consegue dormir à
noite, tem pesadelos que misturam
imagens de Katrina e dela (Buffy)
transando com Spike. No dia
seguinte, Buffy decide se entregar
para a polícia, mas o vampiro,
dizendo que a ama, tenta impedi-la e
no meio da discussão, a chama de
"minha garota". Ela se descontrola e
mais uma vez nega que sente qualquer
coisa por ele, e acaba batendo
furiosamente em Spike, que fica com
o rosto muito machucado*. Ela então
o deixa jogado no beco escuro e vai
se entregar para a polícia:
*Originalmente
esta cena foi filmada mostrando o rosto de
Spike muito pior do que vimos no episódio
que foi ao ar. No entanto, o produtor
executivo e criador da série Joss Whedon
achou a cena muito forte e mandou diminuir
os hematomas no rosto do vampiro.
Buffy:
Você não entende o porque disto
estar me matando, entende?
Spike:
Por que você não me explica? Vem,
é isso aí, desconte em mim.
Desconte tudo em mim. Esta é a
minha garota.
Buffy:
Eu não sou a sua garota!
Buffy
bate furiosamente no rosto de Spike:
Buffy:
Você não tem... uma alma! Não há
nada bom ou limpo em você. Você
está morto por dentro! Você não
pode sentir nada de verdadeiro! Eu
nunca poderia... ser sua garota!
Spike:
Você sempre machuca... aquele que
você ama, pet.
No
final a trama do trio é descoberta e
Buffy fica livre — livre da cadeia e
do sentimento de culpa. Culpa ela só
sente em relação ao seu
relacionamento com Spike, como ela
acaba confessando a Tara, em meio a
uma crise de choro.
Older and Far
Away
É o
aniversário de 21 anos de Buffy. Ela
dá uma festinha, mas não convida
Spike. Porém, como Willow havia
mencionado a festa para ele, o
vampiro (ainda apresentando
hematomas resultantes da surra que
levou de Buffy em Dead
Things)
aparece na casa de Buffy levando
cerveja e um amigo, o simpático
demônio [Clem].
O problema é que Xander e [Anya]
convidaram um belo rapaz, [Richard],
para fazer companhia a Buffy e Spike
fica visivelmente enciumado:
Spike:
Ah, o que é, você tá preocupada
com o Richard? Não quer deixar teu
novo namorado com ciúmes?
Buffy:
Cala boca. Ele é... gentil.
Spike:
"Oh, cala a boca, ele é gentil."
Buffy:
Talvez não seja ele o ciumento.
Spike:
Você acha que ele vai te levar pra
passear na bicicleta dele, pet?
Talvez ele te leve na cestinha.
Ciumento uma ova.
A festa de aniversário de
Buffy, como de costume, acaba mal.
Os convidados ficam presos na casa,
resultado de um feitiço concedido
pela Demônia da Vingança [Halfrek]
à Dawn, que está cansada de ver as
pessoas que ama a deixarem para
trás. Quando todos descobrem o
porquê de não poderem irem embora,
Anya (que também foi uma Demônia da
Vingança) exige que Hallie apareça e
desfaça o feitiço imediatamente. O
detalhe curioso é que quando Hallie
vê Spike, ela fala surpresa
"William!" Buffy então pergunta se
os dois se conhecem e um nervoso
Spike se apressa em dizer que "não",
fazendo Hallie mudar de assunto
rapidinho...
Durante
o confinamento na casa, Spike,
bastante irritado com a presença de
Richard, não perde a oportunidade de
ser irônico com ele:
Richard:
Eu não sei porque não vou embora.
Spike:
Eu também não. Depois, Richie, não
pode pular o café da manhã. Um
garoto em fase de crescimento como
você... Eu costumava adorar o café
da manhã. Nos velhos tempos, eu
provavelmente já teria comido a
esta hora.
Buffy:
É claro que, com esta sua nova
dieta, você agora é cuidadoso com
o que põe na boca, Spikey.
Spike:
É? Não sei. Meu estômago está
fazendo todo o tipo de barulho.
Talvez eu deva comer o que tem por
perto... mesmo que não caia bem.
Spike
olha malicioso para Richie e
pergunta:
Você
malha?
